List of IE Settings for Better Resilience During Coded UI Playback

leave a comment »

This is something I have just this week come across. Not sure how I lived without it but now that I have this information it’s gold to me.

Go to the Visual Studio Team Test blog at this blog entry: UITest Framework – IE Plugin – Part 2. I suggest you read the entire post but the section I am referring to is the second section and is titled similar to this post title. What you will see is a list of settings in the form of registry entries for IE to do wonderful things. Some of these I had never thought of before. Below is just a snippet of what I am talking about.

Listing the commands to suppress unnecessary dialogs to make playback more resilient

IE Setting

Batch Script Command

Turning off the Prompt that asks whether to turn on the AutoComplete REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\IntelliForms" /v "AskUser" /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
Turning IE Auto Complete off

REG ADD "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main" /v "Use FormSuggest" /t REG_SZ /d "no" /f

There are are about 11 settings.
